Whitehaven Road

Having spent many wonderful holidays in Emu Park, Wayne and Gayle decided to build their retirement home there when they found a block that overlooks the most spectacular views. Their main objective was to create a space where their grown children, grandchildren, family and friends could stay when visiting.

As a primary focus, they wanted larger, open spaces, where everyone could gather and mingle.

A referral to Daniel Thomas of Abode Building Contractors, came through a very reputable builder for whom Daniel had previously worked, saying that his standard of workmanship could not be faulted.

In Gayle’s exact words, “We had so much confidence in Daniel right from our first meeting.  We didn’t have a moment of worry throughout the whole process, to the time we were handed the keys to our beautiful new home.”

Wayne and Gayle have neighbours on one side who have two sons who are builders, and the other neighbour is a retired builder, so there was always someone around assessing Daniel’s workmanship and work ethic while he was on site. The feedback from them and other residents in the area was astounding – comments like:

“Above and beyond what is required”

“Quality workmanship”

“Always on site”

“Very meticulous”

“Extremely efficient and organised”

Daniel was extremely proactive in ensuring that he was abreast of price changes in the cost of materials and would ring Wayne and Gayle to confirm choices before he ordered, ensuring that items were correct and within budget. Daniel always managed the resources and timing of purchases effectively and efficiently, so that there was no downtime waiting for delivery of materials.

During construction, Wayne and Gayle received photos of progress,
along with a phone call every Friday to update them on how things were travelling.

Gayle says: “It was Daniel’s ingenuity and input that made the process simple.  Before the plan went to Council, we were impressed when Daniel recommended a few structural changes to ensure the strength and integrity of the structure.  During the build, if there was something that Daniel thought would look better, he would contact us.  Things like, wider architraves and window trims, a concreted path around the perimeter of the house, tiling the back patio with tiles going over the edge to meet the grass and other small modifications. The finishing touches made all the difference!”

Wayne and Gayle appreciated Daniel’s diligence which is evidenced in his attention to detail. His business ethic could not be faulted, and Gayle articulates that: “He is a really lovely, truly honest guy who has an amazing work ethic and an incredible degree of integrity.”

Daniel was always present to supervise and manage other trades on site ensuring that his exacting standards were always maintained. He values a clean worksite, and on occasions was often witnessed after hours, just tidying things away or hosing down areas of the site to keep it spotless.

Overall, Wayne and Gayle could not be happier with Daniel’s work and professionalism. His attention to detail, his communication, and willingness to talk about innovations and enhancements made their dealings in getting their dream home constructed so much simpler.

And the best part of the whole story is that the clients are so happy, the job was done to a higher standard that could ever have been expected, and it was completed in the promised time and for the contracted price.

Gayle’s final words were: “We couldn’t recommend Daniel more highly!”
